Language learning strategies and teaching practices in adult L2 education : The case of Swedish for Immigrants

This article highlights the use and co-construction of language learning strategies (LLS) in second language education for adults with short previous education. In a case study, we explore how LLS are used and co-constructed by one student and one teacher. The data for the article was created in an action research programme comprising two Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) schools, and the methodology used was classroom observation based in linguistic ethnography. In accordance with Griffiths (2013, p. 15) LLS are defined as “activities consciously chosen by learners for the purpose of regulating their own language learning”. The aim of this chapter is to provide the theoretical background for the concept of pronunciation, its pedagogical aspects, and selected factors affecting its acquisition. In the following section an array of definitions of pronunciation will be presented in order to provide a broad perspective. This will be followed by a diachronic overview of approaches to pronunciation teaching and learning, in order to present the pedagogical background. Subsequently, the chapter will address current issues linked to aspects of pronunciation and factors affecting pronunciation acquisition.

Kielenoppimisstrategiat ovat keinoja, joita oppijat käyttävät ohjaamaan ja tehostamaan omaa oppimistaan. Oppimisstrategioiden monipuolisen käytön on havaittu vaikuttavan kielenoppimisen onnistumiseen. Kaut arī bilingvālisms tiek studēts jau vairākus gadu desmitus, trilingualitātei joprojām nepieciešama padziļināta izpēte. Lielākā daļa pētījumu, kas veltīti trilinguālismam, ir balstīti bilinvālisma izpētes koncepcijās, taču trilinguālisms ir daudz komplicētāka parādība, tāpēc tam nepieciešama individuāli fokusēta, izvērsta izpēte. Pētot šo fenomenu, autore darba ietvaros centās sniegt ieskatu bērnu audzināšanas praksēs un veiksmīgos valodu apguves nosacījumos.
